RWANDA GENOCIDE APRIL 6: THE FORBIDDEN DATE

  • In Rwanda, it is forbidden to commemorate the Hutus who died on April 6
  • It is illegal for the media to talk about or comment on what happened on April 6
  • It is illegal to call it Rwanda genocide, you MUST call it Genocide Against Tutsi (in Rwanda people are jailed for calling it otherwise!)

On the night of April 6, 1994, two Hutu presidents, Juvénal Habyarimana of Rwanda and Cyprien Ntaryamira of Burundi, were killed when the Rwandan president’s plane was shot down near his residence in Kigali. All the plane’s occupants died in the attack. To date, no one has been held responsible for this terrorist act. That same night, in the capital Kigali, prominent Tutsi and Hutu opposition figures were assassinated, and the Rwandan genocide began.

The Rwandan government has set April 7 each year as the official date for commemorating the Rwandan genocide. In Rwanda, it is forbidden to commemorate those who died on April 6, and it is illegal for the media to talk about or comment on what happened on that date.

According to the Human Rights Watch report, “Habyarimana died on Wednesday evening, April 6, 1994, when the plane bringing him back from Dar es Salaam was shot down. He was attending a meeting of heads of state where he was supposed to have finally agreed to the establishment of a broad-based transitional government.
The President of Burundi, Cyprien Ntaryamira, who had also attended the meeting, had decided to return in Habyarimana’s plane rather than his own. He too died in the attack, along with General Nsabimana, Chief of Staff of the Rwandan army, and several others. As the plane was about to land, it was hit by surface-to-air missiles fired from a site near Kigali airport“.

The Rwandan government has set April 7 as the date for commemorating the genocide, so why not April 6? In truth, the choice of this date is a historical falsification and part of a vain attempt by Kagame and his RPF to evade their share of responsibility for the Rwandan tragedy. Without doubt, the assassination of President Habyarimana was the trigger for the Rwandan genocide. That Paul Kagame and the RPF radicals deliberately planned such an act of terrorism that triggered the genocide of members of their own ethnic group is absolutely shocking and appalling!

The night of April 6 was a long one. That night, Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Agathe Uwilingiyimana, and other prominent Tutsi and Hutu opposition figures were killed in attacks that remain largely unidentified by many in the international community. But Rwandans living in the country at the time know that these attacks were carried out by the RPF, whose firing squads had previously infiltrated the whole country, where the RPF had already begun to assassinate Hutu notables. The RPF had strengthened its position by secretly bringing weapons and several thousand soldiers into Kigali to supplement the 600 soldiers authorized by the Arusha Accords. The RPF also had several hundred cells throughout the country. Minister Landouald Ndasingwa, a Tutsi and older brother of the famous Louise Mushikiwabo (current Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie), was one of the first victims of the genocide, murdered by the RPF according to numerous witnesses and investigative journalists, including Judi River.
Without the assassination of President Habyarimana on April 6, 1994, the Rwandan genocide would not have taken place. April 6 cannot therefore be commemorated by those who know full well that the President’s assassination, a terrorist act planned by them, was the trigger for the genocide.
